Election Rally

Bad news. I think I have caught a flu. My nose is stuck I have watery eyes I feel weak my lips are dry I am aching everywhere and I keep sneezing.

That means
1. I might have to isolate myself in the guest room or the study room.
2. I am going to have a boring labour day
3. My nose will be red and have skin peeling off
4. I am going to accompany Leslie to watch election rally on TV and not complain.
5. Drinking my milk will make you immune to flu virus.

About the Rally... I know I am capable of making politic comments that will make you fall on the floor so I shall not disgrace myself. But I have noticed something that I have to mention.
- PAP speak like scholars (you know like doctor or GP specifically.. very calm and careful...take this medicine for a few days and come back if you are still unwell).

- When oppositions speak, they are so full of passion that their microphones usually shake quite vigorously. Did you notice that?? Or is it my eyes.. ?

Okay I am running into the danger of changing this from a blog to a photo and video clips gallery. But let me have it this time, I am sick. So let your creativity runs, look at the small pictures and guess how's my weekend so far.

Drop By To Update

7 Months & 12 days

The Young Commando
We have nice people around praising Bevan for crawling (beginning of 6th month) and shouting words (3rd month) early. And I so love to hear these.

More Teeth
4 more teeth coming top down. Very soon, I will let him bite an apple a pear a potato chip.

Frances Yip

Drop your jaw, my idol is Frances Yip (okay go ahead and stare at me like I am an alien). I love her songs her enthusiasm her performance. And today I watched her newest co-presentation with the Chinese Orchestra. My soul was awaken!! (also known as inspired).

Do not live an empty life.
She said, thanks to James Wong, who wrote Shanghai Tan for her, which brought her career to a peak. In any performances, without singing Shanghai Tan, she's not allowed to go off stage *stand up and clap*.
She's right, without reaching that level, life is amiss. Be it in career, in love, in family.

Imagine one day, someone tells her boyfriend "I will not marry you without Amanda's jewelleries." I would cry on the spot, and close shop the next day and retire.
Imagine one day, Bevan tells me, "Dear mother without you, I would not have done this well"

Age gracefully
20 plus and wear a hello kitty. 30 plus and speak with a 5 years old voice. 40 plus and wear a dolly hairstyle. 50 plus and wear a low v-neck.
I wish to age gracefully. When I am 30 I will speak with the wisdom of a 30. When I am 35, I want to make myself a diamond necklace that I can pass down to my daughter (or daughter in law for that matter), which she can pass to her daughter.

Call me an emotional animal on the loose, my heart almost felt as if it was tearing as I watch her performance.

Even her pose is so classic, I don't really fancy that pose though.

Baby Sign Language

7 Months & 7 Days

See the posting time? Its 5am now and I am awake. Guess what? I was dreaming about work, and then woke up thinking about work.

I left office at 930pm today (or rather yesterday). Poor baby waited for me tolerantly, with no milk to drink, and no cozy bed to sleep. He was outside the shop, looking at me lovingly and longingly and excitedly through the glass, calling Ma Mama.

To ease my guilt I learnt baby sign language after he has fallen asleep. According to some parenting gospel (ie the magazines and the internet) Baby sign language helps babies to express themselves better, as their physical development grow faster than speech development. Also, babies who know sign language are also known to speak earlier.

To me, there is one more shallow reason, it’s cute!! Imagine the tiny fingers doing the signs shown in Meet the Fockers. It’s my dream to communicate with Bevan where no one else understands us. Ah hahahaha. Of course except another mother who know sign language. But I am going add in my own input in my set of sign language.

So today I have learnt
Play, Eat, Drink, Milk, Cereal, Cookie, Bath, Daddy, Mommy, Grandpa, Grandma, Good, Yes, No, Full, Hungry, Happy, Sad, Diaper, Pain, More, House, Car, Scared, Please

I will start the new game with Bevan tomorrow.

First Shaving (Part 2)

First Shaving (Part 1)

7 Months & 3 Days

I was threatened by my Mom to shave Bevan's hair. She said if I don't shave he will have no hair, or little hair, or curly hair... So we went to do it today. I haven't decided whether its right or wrong or I like it or not. (A little too overwhelming)

Now tell me you feel like giving him a strand of pearls. *choy!*

First Scolding

7 Months & 1 Day

Bevan usually sleeps at 930pm. But it was 1050pm and he was still awake. He bounced on our laps, crawled through the mess of blankets and pillows, bit our Balinese wooden bed frame (knocked his head too), and nearly tore the pages of his bedtime story books, dashed towards to laptop (and smashed the keyboard). The finale? He bit me, real hard.

Its not his luckiest day, because I JUST finished reading from babycentre that we can start to discipline a 7th month old baby by saying a firm no.

ME: "No biting!" in a harsh voice.
BEVAN: (looked at me, dismayed, shaken, horrified, then started to cry)
ME: (Orrghh. Heartache. And pacified him immediately)

Hopeless? Ya ya ya.

(These pictures were taken few days ago, and not reflective of yesterday night drama)

First Taste of Similac

7 Months

I planned to breastfeed for only 3 months. But I have been TOTAL breastfeeding for 7 months.

As in, Bevan has not tasted any other milk other than breastmilk. Even the cereal was mixed with breastmilk. *Superb right*

However, because

1. I slept at 10pm yesterday night and missed the night pumping session,
2. Bevan woke up earlier than me (that was 7am),
3. There is one can of alluring Similac sitting in the cupboard,
4. My AA DHA are all given out in milk that I AM BEGINNING TO BE LACKING IN INTELLIGENCE.

Bevan tasted Similac for the first time. (Just for one feed)

Benefits of breastmilk (I got them from the internet) -
1. Breast milk is more digestible than formula, nutrients are better absorbed
2. Not breastfeeding increases mother's risk of breast cancer
3. Formula Feeding is associated with lower I.Q. & breastmilk provides better speech & social development
4. Breast milk provides perfect infant nutrition & breastfed babies are healthier over-all
5. Nursing helps mom lose weight after baby is born
6. Breast milk is free & formula is expensive
7. Cow's milk is designed for baby cows, while human milk is designed for human babies
8. Breast milk provides natural pain relief for baby
9. Breast milk has never been recalled due to manufacturing problems
10. No need to worry about which brand is better
11. Breastfeeding is a self confidence booster for mom
12. Babies’ poo smell fantastic

And last but not least. 13. It's what breasts were designed for.

That’s it. I am going back to my TBF tomorrow.

Wow Night

After a busy day at work, I had a wow night with my girl friends (Dom will be refered to as girl for blogging convenience) on Saturday.

It was wow and not wild because wild is no longer in my dictionary. It was wow and not gala, because my group of gals don't dress up enough, you know we wear nice outfits nice shoes nice bags, but we are not the kind who wear tube tops stilettos tight skirts and full makeups (not to the extent of blusher eye shadow mascara).

In fact I only put on make up for wedding dinners and D&D. And so my make up kit is 10 years old. My foundation cover is mouldy.

We went to Big O, I didn't enjoy the food very much, I think Yishun Food Court serves better Fish & Chips, Cartel serves better Waffles, NYDC serves better mudpies.

But, its the companion that matters.

Next we went Marriott for a drink, I love it. We have aged from disco club, to pubs, to Karaoke, to restaurants, and finally to hotel lounge. How tame. We did it, crossed our legs sip a cosmopolitan and red wine (I had ice peach tea) and chatted about migration racial-discrimintion running-a-business the-3-telcos-in-singapore babies maids match-making.

Cinderella reached home at 2am. Nice.

No Barrier Too High

6 Months & 28 Days

After crawling, the next thing on Bevan's list was to climb over obstacles. He crawled over the play pool and fell on our cool marble floor. Also, I shocked myself by how composed I was, I actually did NOT stop him. I was sitting gracefully beside him taking pictures as he did his stunts. *Amazing*

My Little Magic Porridge Pot

6 Months 20 Days

Finally my little prince tasted porridge on Monday, cooked by me, and being in the kitchen, plus cooking baby's food, just made me feel like I have 7 hands 8 legs (also known as clumsy).

Step 1 -- Cook porridge (which became rice due to lack of water)
Step 2 -- Steam fish and spinach (and I put too many spinaches)
Step 3 -- Deposit the porridge (if you insist on honesty, it’s rice then) together with fish and spinach and water into the blender
Step 4 – Blend and have fun!

The outcome was green color. Okay that was day 1.

Day 2 onwards, I added carrots and sweet potatoes and less spinach.

No scallop no red dates no abalone no sharks fin (wait till my show my cantonese soup base power). But it’s nutritious, natural, homemade, fresh, and COOKED WITH LOVE. He didn't fall in love with the lovey porridge I cooked (he still prefers the pureed sweet potatoes and pumpkin the best), but he finished 125ml of porridge (2 times a day).

Yippee Yay Yay.

Aircon Boy

6 Months & 21 Days

For us, the ordinary, characterless and unexciting family in Singapore. The only exciting activity for weekends, is, eating. And so.

Friday - Din Tai Feng.
Saturday - Ajisen
Sunday - East Coast Park

I find it amusing that Din Tai Feng already knew that they would have a queue before they started to operate. Because, they put up an electronic number board (you know one of those you see in the bank or immigration center). The boss is so definitely confident. Imagine putting that up and there is no customer.. Anyhow, the boss was right, and there was a queue. The chicken soup was magnificent. Everything else that we ordered was unremarkable, and the choice is limited.

As for East Coast Park, I just realized that my aircon boy has not seen a fan! O he was extremely captivated by it. Look at him feeling the heat.

Rare Brainny Moment

Sometimes I feel like blogging something more intelligent.

Like the riot in Thailand
If people all of a sudden want the president to step down, I thought the most rational way out is to have an election. Are the people seriously expecting him to quit meekly?

Like the petrol price increase in Malaysia
I wonder if the Malaysia government learn from Singapore,
1. Give out some kind of bonus the same time they increase the petrol price, or
2. Tell the people 2 years in advance. (Like GST increment)

Like the coming election in Singapore
All I know is Goh Chok Tong is going to fight for Hougang.

Oh, by the way, I was watching a short clip on TV "Dare to ask the Prime Minister"
Liang Zhi Qiang: Mr Prime Minister, do you feel that Singaporeans do not have enough money to spend?
Prime Minister: Yes I feel that SIngaporeans always feel that they do not have enough money to spend. My question is, in which area do you not have enough money to spend? You are the expert, I should ask you.
Everyone: *Laugh*
I think it's brilliant. Singaporeans do not have enough money to buy a Mercedes, to go France the 3rd time, to buy a 3G phone for girlfriend, to buy Guess underwear for kids.

Ok ok I should go back to blog about my baby my clothes my hairstyle my moods.
